This vintage is sourced primarily from Renwood’s Estate Ranch in Plymouth, with Block 1 providing brisk acidity and bright red fruits; blocks 2 and 3 bringing black fruit, lush textures and deeper color, and a small quantity of purchased old vine zinfandels from nearby sites adding complexity to an already complex and elegant wine.
Winemaker Joe Shebl is always focused on balance and elegance and working with high-flying international consultant Alberto Antonini imbues great drinkability, and the charm the Italian winemaker delivers to the Zinfandel. Joe’s approach is minimalistic, with little to no overt influence from the barrels, but 15% new French adds a lovely complexity to the nose and a touch of fine texture as well.
