This wine is a gorgeous marriage of traditional Bordeaux practices and distinctly California 'terroir'. Located on the slopes of Moon Mountain, not far from the Monte Rosso Vineyard, Rancho Salina is planted with the three major grape varietals of Bordeaux: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Aged about two years in oak, this wine is as rich in texture as in flavor; built for the longer term (10 or more years) but to try a bottle young is to enjoy luscious, lively, dark berry fruit with a hint of herb and more than a hint of oak (smoke, tar, spice).
