The upper part of the Combe d'Orveau contains more pebbles and outcropping rocks, bringing finesse and minerality. The lower part, close to Musigny, is made up of finer soils containing more silt and bringing more density, depth and freshness to the wine. The ultra cuvée of Chambolle Musigny 1er cru La Combe d'Orveau is produced from the oldest part of this vine which adjoins the Musigny.
